MacGourmet Deluxe 4 App Reviews
should be 90% off importing is cumbersome, the grocory list is a joke put in multipal recipes and you get a long list of stuff it do not combine any thing ( i.e. eggs list three time {1 egg, 3egg,2egg} in stead of total of 6 eggs) Would not recommend to anyone for a $1 tony l
I have been looking for a recipe app for mac for ever. I have tried almost all of them. This is an amazing application that lets you copy paste the ingredients and directions directly. You can import recipes from the web. Paste pictures of the recipes plus more pictures of the procedure. One thing that I love about it is that it syncs all your devices. I am a foodie and mac addict and I am very pleased with this one. I have never taken the time to write a review but this one is worth my time. Love it!!
I’m not sure how well the new version works - I could not get the app to upgrade my library from MacGourmet 2. I dealt with Mariner customer support for 3 months trying to find a solution. I would wait weeks just waiting to hear a reply from them. I am giving up and going to try going back to my old version. If you purchase this app you better hope it works right the first time, because with support team will not be able to help you.
The app does an OK job of the basics; entering, searching, and printing recipes. Syncing to their cloud for other machines and the phone app is bad. It’s crashy and has lost its connection requiring manually reseting the link.
The old MacGourmet allowed me to make a great cookbook. The new version Cookbook Builder is useless. It has one theme and you can only include one recipe per page. Mariner Software stopped responding to customers in June 2014. They should not be selling this product if it cannot fully work with Mavericks.
I have had this program for about 10 years… it works great ON the computer but getting it there is hell! Not syncing properly (I Lost 130 some recipes) and now the “Recipes” that is supposed to be at the top is mixed in with the recipes so I can’t search properly to find anything. I can’t move it anywhere! I have been up all night (it is 6:30 AM) just trying to salvage my recipes and sanity! DON’T buy it! I would rather write them out longhand!
For years this app has had a problem adding quantities of ingredients. The developer acknowledges it but says "it appears that we would need to do some "deep digging" around in the code to resolve this particular issue and I cant say when that will be”. Wow. Cooking software that cannot reliably add ingredients. Save your money.
I moved to this app from YummySoup for the sync and import features. However, over the past month, the import feature has stopped working and the response from technical support is “we are working on it”. I can understand a temporary glitch but to not have any update on the issue is very frustrating. The app (when it works) is good, their customer service - not so much.
Have been using for years and really liked it but now I cannot import anything from the web. Been waiting months but still no fix. Opened an issue and support just tells me they are working night and day on it but so far have seen nothing of any sort of fix. Might have to move on to something else if not fixed soon.
I loved this product when I first started using it several years ago. However, the import function no longer works and the support from Mariner Software is a joke. I have sent them several emails and they have not responded to one. Save your money and purchase the Paprika Recipe application instead. It’s import function works wonderfully and it’s half the price.
Mariner has fixed the importing of recipes from the web, and improved it as well. The fix is in MacGourmet 4.2, which you can try for free (from Mariner) until it becomes available on the App Store. So far it works with 22 websites, with more to come. My email correspondence with their tech representatives has been satisfying and with nice short response times.
Updating my review because Mariner fixed the issue. I’d give it five stars because the app and its integration with the iOS versions has been seamless for me, I loved that I could demo it (no demo for Paprika), and I don’t have to buy separate versions for my iPhone and iPad, BUT I can’t bring myself to forgive the fact that it was comletely broken for several months. Tech support was quick to respond to contact, but sadly very slow to deliver on promises and I lost one of my most used apps for far too long which was extremely frustrating for me. It truly is a great piece of software and I urge you to try it, but it will take some time for my trust to be restored. Buy at your own risk.
Don’t bother unless you are a computer geek and foodie. If you want a simple database for recipe storage - this isn’t it. You need a Masters Degree to figure it out - and then it doesn’t work properly. Sync? HA! Save your money.
I have to say I was a little hesitant to purchase this app, as it has mixed reviews. I have been looking for a Mac recipe software for a long time. I wanted something that would sync with all devices and also have a good data base. I am an Apple products person now 100%. We have a few iPads, iphonesl and two Macs. When I used windows a few years ago (blah) I had a pretty good software for recipes, but not great. I have to say this is exactly what I was looking for. I also downloaded the iPad/iphone app and everything syncs flawlessly. It may take a while to get used to it, but it is well worth it. I have only entered about 20 recipes, along with pictures that I had of them, so far. (just purchased 2 days ago) Everything works perfectly. I always had a problem with my windows software when it came to the nutrition facts. This has an awesome nutrition data base and works great. Since I am a diabetic, it is important to have the nutrition facts. If you take your time and be prepared to work at it for a bit, you wont be sorry. It took me 2 days and now I can just go into the app and put a recipe in there in no time. To me, it is well worth it. I am 66 years old and have accumulated a lot of family recipes over the years. My goal is to get them all in to this app and make a cookbook for my children and grandchildren. This way, these cherished recipes will never die. Great app!!!!
I love this app, I use it all the time. The only thing I wish is that I could upload a video on how to make a dish as well as a picture of the finished product.
I have been using this app since version 1. Over time, the app has only become better, particularly the recipe import from web. Every few years I download the free trials of all the other popular Mac recipe manager apps. Sous Chef, Yum!, Yummy Soup, Cookware, Cook’n, and more. Every time nothing compares to the utility of MacGourmet Deluxe. I like being able to manage my recipes on my computer, but use my iPad in my kitchen when cooking a recipe. I like that it does not come pre-loaded with hundreds of recipes that I will never ever cook. I like that I can create new recipe categories and tags. I like the newer syncing, no longer the hassle it used to be when it was a new feature. On the negative side, the Mastercook format recipe export is not compatible with current versions of Mastercook.
I had an earlier version of this program with over 400 recipes that I had entered. I purchased version 4 and had difficulty upgrading the recipes from the older version. When I requested technical help and they were outstanding and resolved the problem. I am a very happy camper.
